Ben Schmitt
Owner and founder of Davinci Designs, Ben takes great pride in creating the custom design and woodworking projects that allow him to pursue a personal passion for modern furniture design, fine architecture and high-end customized cabinetry. He strives to bring his talent and vision to every project, ensuring detailed craftsmanship, commitment to project completion and client satisfaction.

After discovering an eye for concept and design during his drafting and architecture classes in high school, Ben enrolled and completed the pre-professional year at the University of Arizona’s College of Architecture. The experience that was gained after graduating from the University of Arizona in 1997 with a B.A. in Humanities only added to Ben’s wealth of knowledge, including the completion of a two-year apprenticeship under a Russian woodworker who studied at Moscow’s School for Conceptual Design and collaborating with a homebuilder of high-end residences situated on the coastline of Connecticut.

Born in London, England and raised just outside New York City in Westport, Connecticut, Ben moved to Tucson in 1993 and has been a longtime resident of this eclectic community.  Davinci Designs was founded in 2002.

The Shop
Situated in downtown Tucson, AZ in the 7th Avenue Arts District Studios, is a quonset hut, shared with two other wood workers.  Although each craftsman runs their own separate entities the shop is able to work as a cooperative where tools, labor, knowledge and aesthetic opinions are shared.  The shop is outfitted with all of the heavy wood working machinery and fine woodworking hand tools needed to mill rough stock lumber into finished cabinetry and crafted furniture.
